Thirty percent of all the fishing done on the Arkansas River below Pueblo Dam happens between November and February, and for good reason: the state of Colorado stocks those waters with about 30,000 fish annually, and Pueblo is only a two-hour drive for anglers eager to escape Denver. "The area is lower in elevation than other tailwaters, and winters are milder. The river has an abundance of midges and mayflies that usually hatch through the winter.
