NYT: Scientists Study Fires For Clues to Saving Wildlife

Whether it means picking up and transporting fish out of areas threatened by wildfire or studying the effects of ash on fish gills, scientists are busy finding new methods to lessen the impact of wildfires like the recent Station fire that burned more than 250 square miles of California. "Just what happened to all that ash and how thousands of gallons of fire retardant sprayed on the forest is affecting its creatures is now the focus of much investigation. Much of the work requires painstaking field research in the deepest reaches of craggy forest." Randal C. Archibold in The New York Times.
