Fishing Trips Down, Hiking and Biking Up in Weak U.S. Economy

If recent trends in California reflect how a poor economy has changed outdoor interests, fly fishers -- and especially traveling fly fishers -- are finding other ways to spend their time. Hiking, biking and camping remain strong, however, according to Tom Stienstra in the San Francisco Chronicle.

It's pretty easy to understand given the very high prices for most fishing trips - guides, lodging, etc.

There must be a great market for some "budget' fishing trip providers. With the economy, the number of people able to spend $3 to $5ooo for two or three days of fishing MUST be dwindling.
