"Amenity Migration" in the U.S. West

Richard Cockle examines the now decades-old trend of wealthy urban residents selling their million-dollar residences and buying ranches in the land around Yellowstone Park, noting "A Fat Wallet Runs Through It." "The 1992 movie -- based on a memoir by Norman MacLean about his boyhood spent fly-fishing in Montana's great trout rivers -- prompted hundreds of people to look for ranches on trout rivers, including northeastern Oregon's Minam, Grande Ronde, Imnaha and Wallowa rivers." In The Oregonian.

This piece is more or less a follow-up to another article we noted in October about the research conducted by Oregon State University, the University of Colorado and the University of Otago in New Zealand (read "Ranch Dressing").
