Hints of Mayfly Recovery for New York Lakes

Once an enormous nuisance for northwestern New York residents, then lost -- likely to the effects of pollution or viral infections -- mayflies are showing signs of returning to places like Oneida Lake, where scientists are finding them in the stomachs of a small percentage of fish. "Cornell University scientists found several larvae of large species of mayflies, often called "eelflies" by locals, in walleye stomachs. That could mean the flies, which fattened fish and covered buildings and roads during their annual emergence, could be coming back." Glenn Coin on Syracuse.com.
