Often overlooked, Dry Creek is home to one of the largest populations of native brook trout in Virginia, thanks in part to an accident of geology. "The geology -- lots of carbonate rocks -- helps combat acid rain, which has scarred streams such as the St. Mary's River. It also explains the Dry's name.
