Seven private miles of the McCloud River upstream of Shasta Lake and the 3,500 acres that surround it are for sale for $30 million, according to Jack Trout, a guide who has worked extensively on upper McCloud waters. Possible reason? The California Bureau of Reclamation plans to raise the dam, which would likely flood the property. "As private property since 1904, it is regarded as a secret place of mystery [see second story on page], and the owners have included the mega-rich, such as Dean Witter, Albert Schilling and Austin and Reuben Hills.
