"The Keepered Wilderness"

That is how fisheries management pioneer Alex Behrendt, who died recently, described the environment of a managed stillwater fishery, which he helped to invent in Britain in the mid-1900s. Behrendt's life story is a remarkable read, as reported in the U.K. Telegraph: "He met his future wife when invited to tea with her family on Christmas Day. Although he failed to rise when the King spoke on the wireless, the couple's relationship flourished - though some of Katharine's relations were not happy about their wedding in 1948 since she was the widow of Captain Harold Armstrong, DSO, DSC, who had commanded Maori in the hunt for the Scharnhorst before dying in action."
