Washington State's Rocky Ford Creek

Jeffrey Mayor and a buddy apply some salve to a cancelled steelhead trip by visiting a stretch of rainbow trout habitat surrounded by hatchery waters. "From a vantage point among the cattails, we can see rainbow trout cruising in the slow-moving spring creek. Jon is the first to hook up, landing a rainbow that is a mix of gold, pink and green. Not long after, I’m tussling with a hefty rainbow, thanks in part to the egg-pattern fly Jon had handed to me a few minutes earlier. It’s a good start to the day, and it makes our predawn departure a distant memory." In the Tacoma News Tribune.
