Tools & Vises

Renzetti displayed plenty of new gadgetry at their FFR booth, including the new Presentation 2000 (P2000) vise, which is made entirely from 2024 aluminum and holds hooks from size 28s all the way up to 4/0s. They've also retooled their Apprentise vise, first introduced last year, upgrading it with a rotating head and a hinged stem.

Beulah has a new rotary vise designed by the late Gary Bergstrom called, appropriately, the Bergstrom Rotary Vise. This is both a true rotary vise and a tube tying device for all sized tubes.

Rod-building component maker Pacific Bay International introduced their Rodsmith RW-3XL Professional Rod Wrapper and Rodsmith Rod Repair Kit at the show. With multiple components, the rod repair kits are in fact designed for the retail environment, but the rod wrapper is a professional system that could be used by anyone, with adjustable rod support stands, a new thread carriage system and a lower price point than their top-of-the-line RW-XL wrapper.

Dr. Slick is introducing their new clamps (hemostats) and scissors decorated in psychedelic bursts of color. The new Prism model tools ($13.50-19.50) come in three sizes, are virtually saltwater-proof, and, as the literature says, are "loss-proof." "If you drop one at the edge of a stream, or leave one on a log, the colors jump out like a ball of cut crystal," says Kenneth High, M.D., president Dr. Slick. The company is also bringing out a new 6½-inch scissor clamps ($18) in both straight and curved models.

PEAK Fishing has a new Table Top Fly Tying Tool Kit. Its plastic tool caddy includes the new molded Pick-N-Brush, aluminum Hex Hair Stacker, scissor, bobbin holder, threader, hackle plier and whip finisher all under a clear travel lid and with a new material clip design.

Ross Reels is introducing their new Pescador 6 and 7.5 pliers ($129), which come with custom Cordura sheaths and self-coiling safety lanyards. The pliers are ventilated and have replaceable jaws and tungsten carbide cutters.
